JJ Ballantinein must be one of the first insurance brokers with a conception date of 1956, now that is a while back.  They state that they strive to tailor to the individual or business needs. This may be the prime reason they have been successful over this long time period, the personal touch will always wind over the chatbot or outsourced call centres.

Established in 1999 by Paul Matthews in Limavady, Northern Ireland with the goal of providing local insurance solutions to NI residents for all the essential insurance products, staffed by locals that can understand the local requirements.  Oakland has since grown with 5 offices located throughout Northern Ireland. Hughes Insurance

Hughes Insurance NI is a household name for NI residents, as has always been of the bigger insurance local insurance brokers.  Hughes was first established in 1977, and over the years has earned a reputation as a reliable local broker. Hughes's insurance offer a wide range of products with Hughes home insurance a firm favourite with NI customers, but they also offer a good range of car insurance products including young driver insurance and products for established and start up businesses in NI. Home insurance policies include Flood damage, replacement lock cover, thefts and attempted theft as standard. 

CIP Insurance Brokers

The company was established in 1977, back then it was known as Williamson & McClure and now rebranded as CIP Insurance Brokers. The core principles of CIP are good old fashioned customer services, they listed and work with customers and prefer face to face communication over phone or email. Over the years the company has grown and now has 2 offices in Belfast with 2 more in Crumlin and Ballyclare, they still hold on to the family run principles that established them as a trusted local NI insurance broker back in the mid 70's. 

Abbey Autoline

This is the result of the combination of two of Northern Ireland's biggest names in the insurance sector, Autoline and The Abbey.  Autoline was formed in 1975. Around the same time, Abbey insurance was launched. Both companies were established by local businessmen, The catch phrase  "The Abbey Habit " .

The resulting company which also recently acquired BMG insurance offer a host of products that now encompasses home insurance and car insurance, along with travel, van, motorbike, taxi, farm and business insurance.

Apricot Insurance

Apricot is another local company that has become well established especially in providing car insurance discounts for different NI working sectors including NHS staff, car insurance for teachers, HGV drivers, Doctors, Nurses and the list continues. So if you are after car insurance, be sure to include Apricot insurance in your comparison list.

BMG Insurance

Better known as simply McGurgans insurance. The company was established in 1972 by Brian McGurgan in a small office on the outskirts of Portadown on the Tandragee road. Back then it was an insurance company that you could ring up and speak direct to Brian and get a cover not quickly if needed or arrange new car or commercial lorry insurance NI. It has now grown to offer all types of insurance. Sadly for some it has sold out to Abbey Autoline and when you try and access the original BMG website you will be redirected to Abbey Autoline.

Open and Direct Insurance NI

Open and Direct were based in Dungiven and had earned a reputation for their car insurance products. Sadly, like so many others, they sold out to Abney Autoline NI. net result, NI residents have less choice and may have to pay even higher prices if no competition exists to keep prices down   

Caulfield Insurance

Another local company that was started in Cookstown by local man Mr. John Caulfield way back in 1954, and it still remains family run so no sell out like BMG insurance to the big names. Having fewer local companies does not work in favour of NI residents, as less competition can lead to more expensive car insurance. Caulfield Insurance prides itself in being dedicated to putting the customer first and providing competitive rates for the full range of insurance products.
